Because of our little monster adorable cat, we can’t have many live plants in the house (he’ll just destroy them). That’s a real bummer around this time of year where Spring is bursting and blooming all over the place. I just want to decorate the whole house with lush greens and bud vases! The things we do for our pets.
So the next best thing is to get fake up in here. I have always had a prejudice against fake flowers – they are tacky, old lady-ish, look cheap, and don’t hold a candle to the beauty of the real thing. That was until I realized that most craft stores have a huge selection and that if you take the time, you can find some gems. To my surprise there are some really pretty fake flowers to be found! Don’t get me wrong, I still think fake sunflowers, roses, peonies, etc. are hideous, but the smaller, more delicate greenery pieces are really sweet.
For this project all you’ll need is:
- Scissors/wire cutter
- Two votive candles
- Two glass votive candle holders
- Two larger glass containers
- A big bunch of petite fake flowers
This project really couldn’t be simpler. Nest the smaller votive candle holders in the center of the larger glass containers. Add the candles to weigh it down.
Using scissors or wire cutters (I started with scissors but they weren’t doing the job), cut the fake flowers in varying heights. Don’t cut them any taller than the height of the large glass container though. Artfully arrange the stems in the inner space between the votive holder and the larger container.
That’s pretty much it! Delicate, springy, pretty, and cat proof.
